Peter has a strong background in hill country sheep and beef farming in Canterbury. This, combined with work experience in North Island dairying, crop farming in Central Canterbury and extensive overseas travel with work experience in large-scale Australian beef systems, mixed farming in Britain and hog farming in the United States, gives Pete a broad rural knowledge base.

Academically Pete has balanced practical knowledge with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, majoring in farm management from Lincoln College.
